Recognize Release & Refocus
This morning I was reading my daily devotion and then I was I was caught by another email him what I had just learned hearing from God I was immediately distracted. As I was reading that email it was like the Holy Spirit reminding my heart saying didn’t you just learn his lesson. So what was different instead of spiraling on a tangent this morning I immediately went back to what the word of God said.
I recognize it is little distractions that have a huge impact over time. Course correction is exhausting and often frustrating. So it is important to recognize, release and refocus. Here is how I do it:
- Start each day meditating on the word of God and praying for clarity that God will be a lamp to your feet.
- After meditating on God‘s word, pull out the thing that you’ve written down that God has called you to and read it out loud.
- Ask God to show me how what he has shown you align with the plan he has for your life.
Putting what you heard into action…
- Create a todo list that is based on life strategy (value, vision, mission, and mantra)
- Throughout the day I am completing task and if someone calls or emails me or I run into someone or my task are not going as planned. I will literally pause and ask God, what is going on (recognize).
- If I get clarity that I should pause or press on, I respond accordingly (release my to do list to God’s plan).
- Finally REFOCUS, on how I feel the Holy Spirit is guiding me. The key here is to be flexible but FOCUSED because if you don’t refocus you can spiral away from God’s plan. FYI for years I would allow things to take me off focus so some times are: turning off email alerts, placing phone on do not disturb, setting alarms to remind me to move more, turning off social media alerts on cell phone, these are just a few(share your tops in comments)
Key Takeaway: I am constantly seeking God and because of his authority in my life I am flexible. My goal is alignment over assignment and this has helped me determine if things are a distraction or a reroute. Little distractions can move you in the wrong direction and have consequences… for example: if NASA is sending a rocket to the moon and it is only one degree off course at launch, it will only be 92 feet off course after a mile flight. No big deal. But at that rate, when it arrives to the moon . . . well, it won’t arrive at the moon. It will be 4,169 miles off course. (http://whitehatcrew.com/blog/a-mere-one-degree-difference/). Imagine all of the wasted resources and time due one little degree off error.
Final thought on why Recognize, Release and Refocus are important: It is our daily decisions that will allow us to press toward the mark or derail us from our destiny.

I decided to DO BETTER in my marriage
For years I made my marriage much harder than it needed to be. This year my husband and I are celebrating 22 years of marriage on our best vacation yet. WHY because no matter emotions in the past would have put me in a bad mood I DECIDED to DO BETTER.
Here are a few reasons why:
- God reminds me that LOVE is the highest commandment of all. If you really love someone like Christ loves us then you don’t react to the little stuff
- Even if I felt Right I am learning to manage my mind to say I can get offended or forgive like the grace I am extended by God no matter what I have done
- Biggest reminder is as I am getting older and learning more about Christ I know that tomorrow is not promised and the same amount of time exist in each day HOW do I want to spend it
Please don’t read this post to think I am taking all of the blame or credit for the condition of our marriage.
I do know the hardest thing was letting go of being right or wrong remembering what a good friend recently shared marriage is about being HOLY nor “happy” aka right”.
When I changed attitude it changed a whole lot about our vacation. So much that this morning my husband was like are you going to be like this when we get home and I said confidently YES!
